The game is at South Malling School – very close to Lewes Bridge View in fact.

- After coming through the Cullfall tunnel into Lewes take a right and continue along the A26 (Malling Street) as it climbs the hill. Take a left onto Church Lane and the school should be right there (for those with Sat Nav it’s BN7 2HS).

It’s a 1030 kickoff, so please get there for 10am.

Thanks,

D

It’s a NOON kickoff again this weekend I’m afraid.

The post code is BN42 4WA.

Directions are as follows:

- Follow Old Shoreham Road quite a way west, take a right onto Downsway Road, the  first road on the right after Mile Oak road.

- If you see Topps Tiles you’ve come too far(!)

- Park where you can on the road

- Follow signs for the Mile Oak Wanderers pitches.

That is it.

Directions for sunday morning are as follows: Malling Recreation Fields, Spences Lane, Lewes, BN7 2HQ. – Turn off the A27 at the main lewes roundabout, go through the tunnel, bear right to follow A26, take a left onto Orchard road (before you get to the B2192) and the playing fields should eventually come up on the right-hand side. Details for the new season

September 8, 2011

Hello everyone, a few notes for this upcoming season.

- I have listed our initial schedule below.
- As you may have noticed our pitch has been extended a little by the council which will give the boys a bit more room on the field but parents a bit less on the sidelines(!)
- Martin and I are going to be more disciplined with the boys this year and introduce a basic code of conduct for them to follow (no arguing with each other, refs, no talking when coach is talking, etc). Failure yo follow this will result in loss of playing time.
- We are over-subscribed with numbers (16 registered players) – which means that 2 boys won’t be required each week. We will therefore introduce a rotor system – in the meantime it would help greatly if you could all look at your calendars and inform me in advance of any weekends you will not be around between now and Xmas.
- The plus side is that our league is bigger this season and we have significantly more games (24 league games scheduled plus any friendlies), so should be plenty of games to go round.
- New kit and equipment is now all paid for. Subs are now back to £2 and will be for foreseeable future. Not sure what we will spend this on yet – tracksuits for training would be good, these could be ready for deep winter…
- SUFC seniors are playing at home in a cup match this Saturday. Our boys have the opportunity to meet the players and be official mascots (ie walk out with the first team dressed in their full SUFC kit) – as well as watch the game of course. If you are interested please text me.
GAMES
11/9 – Rottingdean (H)
18/9 – Peacehaven (H)
25/9 – Lewes (A)

Please see below. Please let me know of any weekends when your boy cannot play as we have 16 registered players this season and of course only 14 required each week.

Update

March 14, 2011

Firstly well done to everyone for the past few weeks. Since my return I have seen the first team win 4 consecutive games playing excellent football against some good teams. Ditto our second team, just a little unfortunate to not get the results they perhaps deserve.

It is becoming increasingly hard to single out individuals – which is precisely what a strong team is all about, so well done all!

Key diary dates for the next few weeks are:

Sun March 20th – away at Sov Saints (KO to come)
Sat March 26th – training no game on Sunday
Sun April 4 – home to Sov Saints
Sun April 11 – home friendly (oppo to come)
Sun April 18 – Longhill tournament (all day)
Weekend of 25/26 – EASTER, no footie
Sun May 1 – ROYAL WEDDING, no footie
Sunday 8 May – Eastbourne tournament
Sunday 15 May – home friendly (oppo to come)
Sunday 5 June – Lewes tournament

More details to come on all this, plus we need to schedule our end of season party and awards, possibly 22 or 23 May.

Thanks,
D

UPDATE

February 8, 2011

Hello everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here so good to be back.

As most of you probably know i have been incapacitated somewhat, but am pleased to say i am now on the mend, expect to make a full recovery, and will be back in the fold this weekend. Many, many thanks to Martin for holding the fort and ensuring that our kids have been able to continue enjoying football these past few weeks.

From the reports I’ve heard it sounds like the boys have enjoyed being back out there again, and have played some excellent football, most recently in two hard-fought games against Coldean. The BAD news is that our ‘official’ season is, believe it or not, almost at an end already. After our game against Patcham Amber this weekend we have no matches for two weeks, then we play Peacehaven at home on 6 March and our final game of our season is, believe it or not, on 13 March (away against Hollingbury Hawks).

Martin and I are yet to fully discuss the fine details but we are both in agreement that springtime is actually the best time to play youth football so I am going to be arranging a string of friendly games into early summer (for a start we’ll play the league games we missed against Hawks, Peacehaven and Rottingdean, plus Meridian and Sov Saints have requested friendlies and i would like to try and get a game or two against some new opponents). This will take us through to early May when the tournament season begins…this year I anticipate we’ll enter perhaps 2 or 3 and thus give all our squad the chance to enjoy the thrill of tournament football.

In fact, tournament season starts early this year. The first one we are entered for is on Sunday 17th April – conveniently enough at Longhill! Please put this in your diaries and let me know if you are unable to attend.

Thanks,
Damon

WINTER BREAK

December 6, 2010

Our next league game is 16 January @ home to Meridian and with the winter weather now at its bleakest, i think v unlikely we will train again until 15 Jan. See you then. D

Hi all, the long-range forecast for the weekend is a return to slightly less arctic weather so hopefully our final game of this year – 1030KO to Hawks on Sunday – will take place. After the game we’ll collect jackets for the badges to be re-sewn onto!

Training will be 9am saturday.

Thanks,

D

Hi all, we have a 10am KO on sunday 28th at Peacehaven (piddinghoe avenue). As for yesterday, great performance from the first team against yet another strong side, possibly the best we’ve yet faced – which makes our 2-2 draw all the better.
In the first game, we started slowly but second half in particular we took hold of the game thanks as ever to a great all-round team effort. Our back 3 was once again solid with great passing and skill. Mason was electrifying as ever, and our midfield (most of the time) dictated the play against a couple of very strong opposition runners.
Second game, we came up against some very good players, defended naively, and ultimately paid the price for a bad first half. Second half was a different story. Jude and Josh were magnificent at the back (swimming against the tide somewhat) and Reece played an intelligent game upfront. Chris showed a phenomenal attitude, literally freezing but making saves and being there for his teamates until the final whistle.
Sometimes the result doesn’t always tell the whole story and this was certainly one of those occasions…

Great performance today

November 14, 2010

Well done today against Hawks.

Alfie Crane joins the exalted company of Sinisa Mihajlovic of Sampdioria and Ray Mckinnie of Dundee Utd by scoring a hat-rick of long range free kicks in one game. Incredible skill, as was Mohammed’s header from a great corner from toby to open the floodgates, and 2 critical and brave saves from Michael when the game was in the balance. As usual our 2 defenders played calmly and solidly, against a very good front 3…as for Mason…he got stronger as the game went on, showing his stamina and hunger for the game. Well done all.

Second game, we played very hard and lost to a somewhat fortunate goal. Abdul, Josh and especially Jude played very well, as did Chris between the sticks but we were a little slow going forward, which ultimately undid us – although a great move in the final seconds nearly saw Reece grab an equaliser at the death.

Two good games in the rain!
Thanks all.
D

Weekend of 13/14 November

November 11, 2010

Hello everyone,
- Good news, our new raincoats are in, in the nick of time! Forecast is good for Saturday, less so for Sunday.
- Training is at 1030 this saturday. Your and your child’s attendance at the Lido food fayre is compulsory (all subs this week to be spent there).
- We have a 1030am KO against Hawks on Sunday who play at Dorothy Stringer school (loder rd entrance). Pl be there 20 mins in advance for warm-ups.

Thanks,
D

Two good wins today

November 7, 2010

Two good wins against Patcham today. In the first game we played some great short passing especially between Alfie and Mason, who scored an early contender for goal of the season. jack looked sharp and our defence played well with Michael again showing great handling.
In the second game Mohammed led the attack well with clever support from Reece and a lively game from Meanie. Our defence was again well organised and we finished strongly.
Well done lads!
D

Hi,

We are at home against Patcham Amber on Sunday 7 Nov, 1030am kickoff. Hopefully we will have our new kit by then…

On Saturday we will train for the last time at 9am, after that we will return to the more civillised time of 930.

Thanks,
D

Great performances and 2 impressive wins today against a strong Sov Saints team. In the first game we pretty much dominated for the first 30 mins but to their credit the Saints came back hard and we just managed to hang on for the win in the end! A good team performance: Mason looked sharp, Toby, Alfie and Jack worked very hard in midfield and began to play some good football.
In the second game we played some gorgeous football at times. Johhny continued his hot streak, Mohammed scored a brace of beauties and Jason played a stormer in his first match.
Both keepers deserve a mention – Chris for great distribution and Michael for his velcro hands. Great concentration.

Good stuff lads, let’s try and keep it up!
D

We have a home friendly against Sovereign Saints this weekend – there will be 2 games and perhaps we’ll therefore mix the teams up a bit.

Great effort by most of the boys against Coldean on Sunday – we battled very hard indeed in both games; we just need to match that effort with some smarter decision-making and positional play.

Thanks,
D

Coldean play at Coldean Primary school on
Selham Drive, Brighton BN1 9EL

Come off the A27 immediately after Falmer, take Lewes Rd and Coldean is the first major turning on the right, before Moulescombe Park.

Thanks,
D

Better luck next week.

October 11, 2010

A narrow 3-2 loss to the Patcham Black team in the first game: After matching them first half, we ran out of steam a bit second half and generally looked slow and tired (George aside) – albeit against very strong opposition.

Second game we were overrun second half against superior players but battled gamely, scored a couple of good goals and didn’t give up. Special mention to Abdul for a great ‘all-round’ performance – and also to Chris who stepped into the role of first team keeper and did himself proud.

The nice thing about football is when you have a bad day at the office you can always bounce back next week!
